Therapeutic touch has a rich and varied history; records detailing this ancient therapy can be found in many civilizations across the world. Japan, China, India, Egypt, Greece and many other countries and traditions have used touch as a way to catalyze a healing response in the body.
Hands-on healing, sometimes referred to as energy healing, is gentle, safe and effective as both a standalone therapy and an adjunct therapy to compliment an acupuncture treatment.
I have been utilizing hands-on healing in my practice for the last 15 years. While I have trained in both Reiki and Reconnective Healing, my focus in the last 8 years has been the exploration of the Bengston Energy Healing Method. Developed by Dr. William F. Bengston, who I trained with directly, this approach is research and evidence based, and has been analyzed in over 15 studies conducted at major universities in the United States.
The basis of this method is a teachable mental technique, much like a visualized meditation ('Image Cycling'), that generates a harmonic of brainwave patterns. In addition to measurable physiological benefits, practitioners of Image Cycling can catalyze a healing response in a willing recipient by laying hands directly on the body; it even functions just as well remotely or through the use of surrogates (cotton and water).
While many questions about this method are in the process of being answered through scientific research, there can be no doubt that hands-on-healing with the Bengston Method is a powerful tool for helping the body in its ability to heal from a wide range of conditions.
